How to Finally Treat Patellar Tendonitis

How to Finally Treat Patellar Tendonitis
December 4, 2019By Gary Kettle-Heaven

Risk Factors

Patellar tendinitis is an injury to the tendon connecting your kneecap (patella) to your shinbone. Four factors are most commonly linked to its development:

  1. Physical activity โ€” Running and jumping are most commonly associated with patellar tendonitis. Sudden increases in how hard or how often you engage in the activity also add stress to the tendon.
  2. Tight leg muscles โ€” Tension in the quadriceps and hamstrings can strain the patellar tendon.
  3. Muscular imbalance โ€” Uneven strength distribution between leg muscles may cause unequal pressure on the tendon.
  4. Chronic illness โ€” Conditions like kidney failure, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetes can weaken tendons by disrupting blood flow.
